Common Questions

How do I find the right therapist?

The quality of the therapeutic relationship is the number one predictor in positive outcome. A client should always feel comfortable with their therapist. The relationship is built over time, so there is a normal period of building trust and rapport that should be expected. However, a client should never settle. Every clinician will have a different approach and style. It is important that a clinician takes the time for a brief initial phone consultation to answer any questions the potential client may have before deciding on scheduling a first session.

Are you available on the weekends or in the evening?

CB Psychological sees clients throughout the week as well as Saturday morning and afternoon. Session times generally range from 10am-7pm. Time accommodations can be made in certain situations and time slots depend on availability. Dr. Barrett is out of the office on Wednesday and Sunday, but leaves a few sessions open for telehealth.

do you take insurance?

CB Psychological is an out of network provider, but can provide monthly super bills for each client to send to their insurance directly.

is therapy confidential?

Generally, the therapeutic relationship is confidential if the individual is 18 years of age or older. If the client is a minor,  confidentiality is still granted, but clinicians will still communicate with the parent/guardian regarding treatment goals, general session themes, progress, concerns, and if the child is at any potential risk. Psychologists and therapists are mandated reporters. We are required to report any disclosure of child, elder, or dependent adult abuse as well as if there would be any intent or plan for the client to take their own life or harm the life of another person. These limits are addressed in the first session. Clients who are in the legal system will have additional limits to confidentiality. These limits will be discussed in initial sessions or evaluations.
